International Women's Day (IWD) allows us to celebrate the achievements of women and promote gender equality. This year's theme, "Accelerate Action," encourages us to take meaningful steps towards equality.

At Expro, we believe in fostering environments where women are not just included but are actively supported to grow within the business. This year, we have asked some of our female colleagues across the world to share their thoughts on accelerating action, their role models, valuable career advice, and more.

See what Debbie had to say below.

Who is your female role model or someone you admire & why?
Gro Harlem Brundtland, a pioneer in gender equality, both in Norway and globally. As Norway's first female Prime Minister, she led the country with a vision of gender equality and sustainable development. In 1986, Brundtland formed a government with 44% women, which was a world sensation and set a new standard for female representation in politics. This inspired many other countries to follow suit. She worked to increase parental leave and ensure full coverage of kindergarten places, making it easier for women to combine career and family life. Her work on gender equality is admirable, her efforts have not only improved gender equality in Norway but have also had a significant impact globally. Her work has inspired many and set a high standard for gender equality work. I can go on…. That is how much she inspires me.

Tell us about a valuable piece of career advice you have been given?
One valuable piece of career advice I have come across is to embrace lifelong learning. The world is constantly evolving and staying curious and open to new knowledge can help you adapt and grow in your career. Whether it is learning new skills, staying updated with industry trends, or seeking feedback, continuous learning can keep you relevant and competitive. If I were to give advice to my younger self, it would be to network and build relationships. Connecting with others in your field can open opportunities, provide support, and offer different perspectives. Do not be afraid to reach out, ask questions, and collaborate with others. Building a strong professional network can be incredibly valuable throughout your career.

This year’s IWD theme is Accelerate Action, what does that mean to you?
Swift actions, just getting things done.

If you could do a day in the life of a famous female, who would it be and why?
Again, Gro Harlem Brundtland, her work on gender equality is admirable, her efforts have not only improved gender. I am conscious of this in my everyday life as it is important to apply in all environments.
