Customer challenges
- In order to support the future development of an offshore field in South America, the operator required rapid in-country analysis of formation fluid samples collected from the appraisal well
- Precise fluid property and composition analysis were required to inform decisions related to well completion and facility engineering design. To expedite this decision making process, in country logistics needed to be arranged to avoid lengthy export processes which would have delayed progress and increased costs
- Following a successful technical evaluation at Expro’s Houston laboratory, the operator approached Expro to manage the transfer, validation, and analysis of samples collected during the open-hole logging and sampling phase
- The project required the commissioning of a temporary laboratory in South America to support the extensive work scope
Expro Excellence
- Expro mobilized a comprehensive laboratory package in-country to deliver the scope of work, with a team of PVT engineers on standby to receive the hot-shotsamples as soon as they came onshore
- The Expro team worked with the operator and other parties to ensure the scope of work and the responsibilities for sample handling were agreed in advance
- Expro’s engineers worked round the clock to ensure minimal downtime in the analytical workflow
- Our unique TurboPVT system was used to provide sample validation, transfer and live fluid property measurements including live density and permittivity at transfer conditions
- Expro’s in-country analysis included full C36+ composition, BTEX, hydrogen sulfide, OBM contamination, as well as CCE, saturation pressure and capillary viscosity
- Initial data was reported within 24- hours of samples arriving at the lab, with the full scope delivered within two weeks, including a 5-day sample restoration
Value to client
- Reduced turnaround time: By conducting the analysis onsite in South America, Expro eliminated the need for lengthy shipping and processing times, providing the operator with critical data in a matter of days instead of weeks or months
- Enhanced decision-making: Timely fluid analysis allowed the operator to make informed and confident decisions, helping to keep their project on track
- Operational efficiency: Onsite analysis streamlined operations, such as 24-hour shifts, reducing potential downtime and minimizing the risks associated with delayed insights
- Local capability development: The in-country analysis demonstrated Expro’s commitment to supporting local operations, fostering trust, and strengthening relationships with the operator and in-country stakeholders
- Precision and Reliability: Expro’s TurboPVT and standard PVT analysis capability provided highly accurate and reliable data, ensuring high quality and timely information was received
