Customer challenges
- The customer was looking for a solution to unload two exploration wells prior to commencing a well test operation. The main reason for unloading the wells is due to the heavy fluid in the well post completion. As this is an exploration well, the tubing is filled with drilling/completion fluid and needs assistance to reduce the bottom hole pressure in order for the reservoir to start producing
- The customer had planned for both exploration wells to be unloaded prior to starting the well test program to initiate the pressure that has been exerted on the reservoir to decrease and subsequently let the well flow the hydrocarbons naturally
- A full well test package and slickline equipment limits the available space onboard
Expro Excellence
- Expro proposed our new CoilHose service as a replacement for Coiled Tubing (CTU) to unload the wells using nitrogen injection
- Our CoilHose solution offers a rapid rig time compared to CTU, which was key to the operation when planning the move between the two wells
- CoilHose was selected by the customer as the preferred solution over CTU based on the potential cost saving and our track record
- Our solution does not require any heavy lifting, has a smaller footprint and has less rig-up complexity
Value to client
- The customer was able to unload two exploration wells within 48 hours prior to the well test, this saved the customer a lot of time as we could rig-up and down much quicker than Coiled Tubing
- Due to the smaller footprint of the CoilHose equipment, spotting and preparation for the operation was done without using critical rig time and in parallel with the ongoing operation. Our equipment has a smaller footprint, saving extra vessel transportation reducing CO2 emission
- The customer experienced both a reduction in operational and critical rig time, as the rig-up time is rapid and like slickline
- Moving between the two wells was achieved within hours as the Pressure Control Equipment (PCE) is small and compact and can be easily stored on the rig floor while skidding to the new well
